How to Program Yourself For Success in 2019

In the next few paragraphs, I am going to share with you one of the things I learnt in 2018 about reprogramming yourself for more success.

Hopefully, you will use it to make your 2019 an awesome one

Let’s start with a backstory:

As a young student of success, one of the best books that has helped me greatly in life is a book by Brian Tracy

He titled it “GOALS” (I suggest that you get a copy and read)

In the book, Brian Tracy said “Success is goals, all else is commentary”

And I have found that to be very, very true

One HUGE reason why many people keep failing and struggling in life is because they have no goals

Or the goals are not specific enough

Or they do not know how to create strategic plans that allow them to reach their goals.

In my own life, I have found out that whenever I start a particular month with a specific, measurable goal, I always end up achieving a lot in that month than months that I started with no goals.

The same thing applies when I start my week with a specific and measurable goal

Same thing even applies to days.

So, how can you use this to attract more success into your life in 2019?

There are many teachings about setting goals and achieving them

I have studied several of them

Some of them can be really confusing.

Some people set plenty goals for themselves and they don’t even achieve one because it is too complex.

I have found out that setting goals can be very simple if you follow my approach to it.

STEP 1: Let’s start by writing down the following:

HEALTH

WEALTH

LOVE

HAPPINESS

Health – All things pertaining to the working of your physical body.

Wealth – Everything about business and making money goes here

Love – Everything about family and relationships go here

Happiness – The internal feeling of peace, freedom and joy is what this is all about

Those 4 things are the main pillars of what we all want in life.

With my goal setting process, I simply set 1 or 2 goals under each of those categories

At the end of the day, you shouldn’t have more than 6 goals

That is a maximum of 2 under each category

No need to set any goals under happiness

It is the achievement of the goals under health, wealth and love that leads to happiness

By the way, out of the 4, wealth is the only one that is concrete (can be touched)

The remaining 3 are FAR powerful than wealth and they are not physical

Anyway, so you start by setting 1 or 2 goals under each of those categories (health, wealth and love)

But you have to write down those goals and make sure that they are specific and measurable and attach a deadline to it

For instance, let’s say you are currently at a body weight of 115kg and you desire to slim down

That is an health issue, you simply write:

“I will be at a body weight of 90kg by April 31, 2019”

If you want to add some extra income of N200,000 to what you currently earn, you simply write:

“By April 31, 2019, I will be making an extra N200,000 a month”

Remember…

Your goals must be specific and must have a deadline attached to them

“I want to make more money in 2019” is not a goal

It is a simple wish.

Let’s move on.

STEP 2: Create strategic plans to achieve the goals you have set

This is a part of goal setting that is often ignored.

And that is because nobody wants to sit down and create plans for anything

We would rather just start whatever we want to do anyhow

And that is why the failure rate out there is usually HIGH

There is a wise saying that says: “A fool with plans will run circles around a genius with no plans”

Creating plans to achieve your goals does not mean everything will fall according to your plans

No.

That rarely happens. Maybe never.

But creating plans for your goals helps you to know what you need, where to go, what to avoid, who to ask for advice etc

Sometimes, you may not possess enough knowledge to create detailed plans.

But that also leads to a plan because you now know what to work on first which in this case will be to: Get expert knowledge

Here is an example.

There was a time I wanted to start a sports betting business.

At the time, I didn’t really know a lot about sports betting.

So, my plan to start a sports betting business was:

(1) Open a sports betting account and start betting on sports to get used to the system

(2) Sign up as an affiliate to a sports betting platform and start promoting it

(3) Get help from someone who is an expert or authority on the topic even if it means paying them

STEP 3: Acquire new skills and habits to help you put your plans into action

It is very rare that you will be able to achieve a goal without acquiring new skills or habits.

By the time you are working on your plans, you will be able to identify the skills and habits that you need to achieve your goals.

For instance, let’s say your goal is to add an extra income of N200,000 by April 31, 2019 and you intend to do so by starting a part time ecommerce business

This means you will need to acquire new skills such as:

– Finding and Importing hot products

– The skill of selling the products

– And maybe some project management skills

If your health goal is to drop down to 90kg by a specific time, you might need to acquire some new habits like – Eating healthy foods and avoiding certain type of foods.

As you can see, setting goals and creating plans this way helps you to identify what you need to focus on

But do not forget.

Setting goals isn’t a magical process that brings you the results you want if you do not take any action and that is where many people fail.

It is all about ACTION, ACTION, ACTION

While the process of setting goals and creating plans to achieve them can be labeled as the MACHINE that will bring you your success, Action is the fuel that powers that machine so that you can make your goals a reality.

Talking about action…

95% of people who read this will simply read it, nod their heads and move on without making any attempt to set any goals.

Then, they will look back by December 2019 and wonder why time just passed them by without any achievement

If you happen to be one of the 5% who will actually do something about what you just learned, here is my recommendation:

(1) Take a blank piece of paper right now and a pen

(2) At the top, write – My goals for 2019

(3) Divide the sheet of paper into 3 columns

(4) On each column, write HEALTH, WEALTH and LOVE respectively

(5) Under each category (E.g. Health) – Write your 1 or 2 goals

(6) Under each goal, write your plans to achieving the goals (aka what roadmap do you need to follow?)

(7) If you need help with creating your plans, write how you intend to get that help

(8) Based on the details of your plans, list out the skills and habits you are going to need to put your plans into action

(9) Start taking action now
