The Valley Of Disappointment

Today, let’s talk about the valley of disappointment.

If you set out to achieve any goal, you can’t miss this valley.

It is only those who realize that this is a valley and keep moving that eventually get out of the valley and get to their goals.

Others get buried.

Let me explain:

So, you are looking for a business you can do to make money.

Then you come across this old friend of yours who seems to be doing really well.

“Bro, what is going on? You should show me the way”

Then your old pal decides to show you how it works.

You can see how he is making N3m a month and you begin to dream.

“Even if I can just start with N1m a month”

You think.

Then you get started.

What is supposed to be 2 weeks turn into a month.

No results.

Then 1 month turns into 5 months and all you have been able to make is just N27,000.

So, you begin to think.

How come this guy is making N3m a month from this same thing that you can’t seem to make N10k a month from?

But what you don’t know is that your old pal made a whooping N15,000 in his first year of doing the same business.

And it was until 18 months into it that everything blew up.

This is how it works with everything.

You want to get into shape, so you start going to the gym.

But 30 days later, your body still looks the same despite all the back breaking exercises you have been doing.

The valley of disappointment is what causes many people to fall back into their old lifestyle or routine.

The valley of disappointment will show up in your life over and over again when you are trying to achieve any goal.

But when it does, remember the words of your little pal (Toyin Omotoso) saying:

“It is just a valley and the work of this valley of disappointment is to test you to see how bad you want that thing you are trying to get.”

In order to get out of this valley, sometimes, you have to check what you are doing and re-strategize.

And sometimes, you just have to keep doing more of what you are doing already.

This quote from Jacob Riis sums this up:

“When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much a crack showing in it…

Yet at the hundred and first blow, it will split in two, and I know it was not that last blow that did it – but all that had gone before.”

I had to get this out this afternoon.

I hope this message is clear.

A very clear message indeed. In other words, just keep at it… there’s nothing underneath the milky way that can stop you!

Yes, this is very clear and aptly put. I will keep this in mind as I venture into this new biz.
